The descent from Blacksmith Peak down to Avalanche Lake is a must do with no flats like Horse Creek or a slog like going out to Little Slide.

Nice Dan. I forgot you had this site. I was up there on Sunday and I think I looked down the Moyiner Couloir. I saw a couple tracks. Looked intimidating from the top. Snow was still unconsolidated but the lookers left chute of Thompson still rode pretty well and there was already a bootpack. :)

Thanks Julius. Last week's storm definitely brought more snow than was expected to the upper elevations. Glad to hear everyone is OK.

I went up to Virginia Lakes this weekend and there was still excellent snow and a fair amount of ice fisherman on "Big Virginia. I also saw an amazing avalanche incident on the peak that drains in to Big Virginia. I watched these 2 skiers who had hiked 3/4 of the way to the peak and were descending a big section. I heard the crack and saw the fracture simultaneously. The lead skier was right on the edge and made a good choice to go back to his right as the whole section collapsed in to the drainage! I have a picture on my cell phone and will try to get it to my computer and forward!! The 2 completed their descent after a fair amount of time considering their options. Very Lucky guys!!
